This group encompasses, but is not limited to: lolita (especially lifestylers), EGA, tanbi kei, romantic goth, Victorian goth, princesscore, historical fashion, and dandyism. You need not identify with any of these particular terms; all who feel the pull of the masquerade are invited.
🌹 The Masquerade's Manifesto 🌹
To participate in a masquerade is to participate in farce. Though there is a degree of freedom to be found in their costumes, authenticity protected by the anonymity of a mask, they remain costumes nonetheless. We, the people of the masquerade, are earnest in our self-expression, but do not seek to truly become that which we perform. Just as we admire the lavish style of the European nobility of old, we condemn their persons, and all forms of colonialism and authoritarianism both then and now. We wear thrift store curtain gowns and plastic pearls; we hold our parties atop the graves of royalty; from the ashes of the old order, we seek to fertilize the farms of freedom.
…In less fancy words, this is not the place to go promoting “traditional values”. Tradwives, radfems/”gender-criticals” or whatever they’re calling themselves these days, trumpies, etc. are NOT welcome here. I am Latina and if I smell white supremacism on you, you’re out. (Cottagecore and coquette are also banned for this reason.)
Additionally, we seek to provide a welcoming space for people of color and ethnic minorities, trans folks and everyone on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, plus sized people, disabled people, and the working class. If you feel something can/should be done to improve the group in that regard, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
