Immersive/Maladaptive Daydreaming Clubhouse

The Immersive/Maladaptive Daydreaming Clubhouse is a SpaceHey group that aims to serve as an outlet for individuals who engage in immersive daydreaming to share their experiences. Connect with like-minded people and feel free to discuss your paracosms on the group bulletin board and forum.

Rules

  1. Follow SpaceHey rules at all times. They can be found in this link.
  2. Sensitive topics may be discussed. Maladaptive daydreaming is an unhealthy coping mechanism (see Q&A for more info). While we try to accompany both people who engage in immersive daydream and maladaptive daydream, we want to draw a distinct line on posts that cover heavier topics, like vents and rants. Therefore, we advise group members to add a content warning disclaimer to the title of their bulletin or forum post.
  3. Do not encourage unhealthy behaviors. In the IDD/MADD Clubhouse, we make it a priority to encourage people who engage in maladaptive daydreaming to recover and become their best selves. Because of our pro-recovery stance, pushing unhelpful coping mechanisms or remarks will result in being kicked from the group.

Q&A

  • What is immersive and maladaptive daydreaming? How are they different?
  • Maladaptive daydreaming is when a person uses daydreaming to cope with problems in their daily life. This daydreaming is usually characterized by being very vivid and complex, which takes up a large chunk of the person's day (typically hours at a time). Continuous daydreaming can lead the person to withdraw from their social life and fail to complete work or daily tasks (Paraphrased from this article from Harvard). Immersive daydreaming, similar to maladaptive daydreaming, also involves vivid daydreams that can span for hours, but it does not negatively interfere with the person's life and may even benefit them.
